“ I am fortunate enough to be able to sponsor two young ladies and I consider it a real privilege to do so”
Child Sponsor, Changing Lives Malawi
There is no shame in growing up. However, if you don’t know what is happening to your body when you reach puberty and you have no sanitary products, you might feel shame. You try your best to find an old rag to stem the blood but you are so embarrassed and worried about your clothes being stained that you can’t risk going to school so stay at home until the bleeding stops. How many days school have you missed this month?
We have helped the teenage girls who are supported by the Foundation. We sent hand turn Singer sewing machines, fabrics and other supplies and some of the girls have been learning to sew. We had an appeal for pants which was a great success and also the charity ‘Smalls For All’ donated generously to us. The girls have made reusable sanitary towels and drawstring bags. They have recently been making facemasks for everyone too.
So each teenage girl has received a drawstring bag with three pairs of pants, five reusable sanitary towels, soap and a health information leaflet. Now none of them need to miss one week of school every month. They can attend school every day.
It may seem like a small thing to us but this little project is changing lives.
