The hundreds of children and young people we help to support in rural northern Malawi absolutely love team sports. Football and netball are the traditional games they play but we facilitated the introduction of touch rugby to the far north which has been a huge success. The Malawi rugby development officer is about to make his third visit and children are playing touch rugby regularly in the primary schools. We have been very fortunate to have had some amazing donations of sports kit, mostly football, but also rugby and some netball and other sports too.
Some of these kits are kept at Bright Futures Campus for the use of hundreds of vulnerable children, of all ages, who come every weekend to be fed and take part in different activities including sport. However, many of them are distributed to the local schools and community teams who take great pride in wearing new, matching kit. We have seen photos of sports kit at primary schools that was years old and literally falling apart. We are very grateful for all the help and support we receive to send sports kit to Malawi.
It currently costs £17.50 per box on the Bananabox Trust container and there are also associated costs with collecting boxes from the container in Malawi which is a long journey, so we do ask for your support in helping us cover these costs which soon add up.
