Sarah’s blog 3/11/26
As well as all the core subjects that are being taught, last week there was a quiz and sports at Bright Futures Secondary School. Extra activities like these are great motivators for the students and encourage teamwork and a sense of belonging. I’ll write about the sports and share those photos and videos first then the quiz photos and videos will be nearer the end of this blog.
Sports between Bright Futures SS and Napasa SS
A local school – Napasa Secondary School was invited to Bright Futures Secondary School to play football and netball in friendly matches. A great time was had by all the students and lunch was enjoyed together. There were plenty of spectators to cheer them on at the sports field.
The first and second teams from both schools drew in their netball matches. The first football teams drew in their match but Napasa’s second football team won against Bright Futures 1-0. So they were very evenly matched teams and there must have been some tense moments. What is lovely to see is that this could be teenagers anywhere in the world having fun with their friends. These teenagers are living in extreme poverty. All have experienced trauma. Team sports helps them forget about their challenges and hugely difficult lives and have some positive childhood experiences.
https://localgiving.org/fundraising/changinglivesmalawisportstournaments This is the link to our new fundraising page. We are hoping you will support this fundraiser to help us continue being able to facilitate sports matches and tournaments for vulnerable teenagers. A big cost of putting on these events is having to feed everyone a substantial, nutritious lunch. But how can we expect them to walk to where they are playing and take part for their team, without any food to give them energy. Food is essential to their wellbeing but also makes the event more special as everyone knows that they will no longer be hungry that day and therefore will be able to sleep better that night. Please help if you can.

Bright Futures Quiz
Everyone enjoyed the quiz that the teachers at Bright Futures Secondary School organised for the students last week. We’ve sent some prize money for the students who took part. The young people were surprised and delighted. Activities like this and small prizes will keep the students motivated and working hard. This was the first quiz but it definitely won’t be the last! Thank you for reading and supporting these very vulnerable students. We still have students looking to be matched with sponsors so please do get in touch if you would like to help contact_us@changinglivesmalawi.com Thanks again, Sarah x
