Growing bananas at Chambo School

It was a busy morning working in the banana orchard at Chambo Primary School today. Levison sent some great photos and videos.

Levison sent these great photos and videos from his visit to Chambo Primary School this morning. Their banana orchard is looking great and the students are learning about agriculture.

We were fortunate to receive a grant from The CB & HH Taylor 1984 Trust two years ago for developing orchards for food and income. This banana orchard was part of that funding. We have just heard that we have been successful in obtaining another grant to further develop fruit tree orchards. We are very grateful for this funding.

As well as children gaining skills in practical agriculture, these orchards are providing a sustainable source of food and income. All the children at Chambo Primary School are living in extreme poverty and many are suffering from malnutrition. This is the second crop of bananas. Unfortunately, children were so hungry that when they saw the first bananas they ate them immediately. Hopefully, this time, some will be eaten and some will be sold so that the children can also begin to see the value of their crop.
